On a cold February morning, in the jewel of the south – Atlanta GA, Alexus C. Jones came into the world. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were overjoyed at the birth of their baby girl. Mr. Jones an ex-football player and master of the martial arts (over 30 years experience), kissed his wife and congratulated her on a job well done.

Within minutes the conversation turned towards the sport of tennis. They asked each other, what do you think that Tiger Woods  and Venus and Serena’s parents saw in them at such an early age that indicated to them that they had children that would be part of the best to play a sport so many years later? As they eliminated a crystal ball and a witch doctor, they came to the conclusion that it was a decision made by the parents long before the children knew.

They knew that this would be a journey that would take total dedication and sacrifice by the entire family, but it was something that they were willing to do for their new baby girl. She needs a tennis name,” said Mr. Jones. He wanted her first 2 initials to be A and C so that Ace would be her nickname. He then thought of setting her up for a future endorsement deal with perhaps Lexus, one of the finest automobiles of that time – and the snow ball began to roll down hill.

Their new baby girl became Alexus "Ace” Jones. Now there was only one problem. Momma and Papa Jones did not know anything about tennis, but they were smart enough to know that they would need the best coaching and hard work for her to have a chance in this high profile, high dollar sport.

Next, Team Jones sought out the world famous coach Vic Braden since he has coached many great players of the past such as Agassi, Austin, Sampras, and many more. He is known in tennis circles as a master teacher and fundamentals technician. They met with his Director of Tennis, Luke Wickham to craft a plan.

Now they would have to wait for her to grow strong enough to hold a racquet. So at 18 months, old her father began to teach her martial arts so she would have the focus and flexibility that the arts are famous for. After 3 years of martial arts and now 4 years old, she was now ready to begin her tennis training with Vic.

By 6 years old, Alexus had developed quiet a good serve. She was considered by the Guinness Book Of World Records for the fastest serve by a 6 year old at 70 mph.  Also at 6 years old, Alexus trained at the IMG/Bollettieri Academy – Vic and Nick are former business partners. She also spent some time training with Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams.

At this point, Team Jones sought out the coach that started the Williams Sisters – Rick Macci. She trained with Rick until 7 years old on some of the finer points that he worked on with the sisters.  At 8 years old and after 4 years of 6 hours per day – 6 days per week of training, Alexus played her first USTA age 10 and under tournament and won in dramatic fashion. She won 40 games in a row! Next, they moved her to the 14 and under age group. Within a few tournaments she reach top 500 of 2200 girls and then moved to the 16 and under age group where she won the back draw in her first tournament. At 8 years old, making her the youngest in the USA to have a ranking in the 16s age group. Alexus turned 9 years old and moved to the 18 and under age group where she won her first tournament that she played in with a finals score of 6-0 6-1. This made her the youngest in the USA in the 18′s age division. Alexus then played several 18s division tournaments and was ranked as high as 521 out of 1500 girls. This also made her the youngest female or male in the 30+ year history of the USTA to have a ranking in all divisions from 10′s to 18′s. Alexus then took 12 months off from tournaments to train. Team Jones was honored to be contacted by the great Martina Navratilova to participate in Alexus’s development. ( See training session video on her video page) Alexus then entered another 18 and under tourney and won with a finals score of 6-0 6-0 in only 50 minutes. World famous Queens Club coach Max Hastings who has over 400 talented junior players is quoted on his website as saying she is a “Future Wimbledon Champion” and has dedicated a section on his personal website to Alexus’s Progress: www.maxhastings.com

Now at 14 years old – the sky is the limit!
